Atmospheric (air) gods Rudras in Vedic mythology personify the phenomena
which occur in an atmosphere of the Earth that is equivalent to heavenly gods in
the category Adityas, but two categories of gods differ. Adityas is light which
is extended in space, and Rudras are atmospheric phenomena creating the
environment in which light is extended.
The atmospheric phenomena is rains, snows, fogs, clouds, thunderclouds,
lightnings, winds and other factors which determine a condition of the sky,
namely in aggregate gods Rudras personify diverse parameters of an atmosphere of
which there is a matter (substance) of heavenly space.
There are 11 gods in the category Rudras that is equal to number of vowel sounds
in the modern Russian alphabet and language. The name Rudras means "roar" that
confirms a ratio with vowel sounds of speech as vowel sounds are formed as a
result of sounding a voice.
Names of gods and letters of the appropriate sounds of Russian language are
shown on the chart:
![]() |
The chart shows the hierarchical diagram of gods of
Vedic mythology in the category Rudras. Dark points show units of the
diagram which correspond to names of gods, and lines specify some
interrelations of gods in hierarchy, but there are also other
interrelations which on the chart are not shown. Letters of the Russian alphabet designating appropriate vowel sounds of speech are compared to names of gods. And also colors of a rainbow (color of an iridescent spectrum) are compared to names of gods and vowel sounds. The information on principles according to which colors of a rainbow are compared to vowel sounds and are compared to names of gods look in the other section of this site: metalinguistics. |
Vowel sounds
(red color),
(yellow color),
(blue color)
form a triangle of the not mixed colors and consequently gods RUDRA, MATARISHVAN,
VAYU have interrelations which are similar to ratio of red - yellow - blue colors.
Vowel sounds
(orange color),
(green
color),
(violet color) form a triangle of the mixed colors i.e. orange color is formed
of mixture red with yellow, green color is formed of mixture yellow with blue,
violet color is formed of mixture red with blue. Hence, gods APAS,
PARJANYA, VATA have interrelations which are similar to ratio
of orange - green - violet colors. And also the god APAS is interconnected to gods
RUDRA and MATARISHVAN as orange color is formed of mixture red with yellow; the god
PARJANYA is interconnected to gods MATARISHVAN and VAYU as green color is formed
of mixture yellow with blue; the god VATA is interconnected to gods RUDRA and VAYU
as violet color is formed of mixture red with blue.
Gods VATA and VAYU, RUDRA and PARJANYA, MATARISHVAN and APAS form the
interconnected pairs as are located opposite within the hierarchical diagram.
The vowel sound
is an iotated variant of the sound
and consequently the god ADJA ECAPAD is connected to god RUDRA. The vowel sound
is
an iotated variant of the sound
and consequently the god TRITA APTYA is connected to god MATARISHVAN. The vowel sound
is
an iotated variant of the sound
and consequently the god APAM NAPAT is connected to god APAS. The vowel sound
is
an iotated variant of the sound
and consequently the god
AHY BUDHNYA is connected to god PARJANYA.
Gods MATARISHVAN, TRITA APTYA, ADJA ECAPAD, RUDRA correspond with the top part
of the hierarchical diagram and have fiery qualities, and gods PARJANYA, AHY
BUDHNYA, APAM NAPAT, APAS correspond with the bottom part of the hierarchical
diagram and have water qualities that will be told below.
Light blue color of god AHY BUDHNYA and pink color of god APAM NAPAT correspond
with the bottom part of the hierarchical diagram and are the clarified colors.
Brown color of god TRITA APTYA and purple color of god ADJA ECAPAD correspond
with the top part of the hierarchical diagram and have the blacked colors.
Vowel sounds
are
softening namely consonant sounds are said softly before these vowels, and
vowel sounds
are
hardening namely consonant sounds are said firmly before these vowels, that
influences interrelations of the appropriate gods in the category Rudras with
gods in categories Adityas and Vasus. As some consonant sounds have no soft or
hard pronunciation.
Adjacent vowel sounds
and
are correlating. For
example, in the word
,
and in Russian word
and Ukrainian word
.
And also opposite vowel sounds
and
are correlating. Other vowel
sounds do not correlate if to take into account correlations of sounds in
Russian language.
Opposite vowel sounds
, and also adjacent vowel
sounds
and
form diphthongs in Latin language.
And also there are many other interrelations of gods and interrelations of
sounds of speech within the shown hierarchical diagram.
INDRA (sound
).
INDRA is the main god among gods of Vedic mythology in the category Rudras and
corresponds with vowel sound
which at the same time is considered as a
consonant sound i.e. rules of phonetics define that sound
is consonant but in
essence it is a vowel sound. Sometimes INDRA is ranked to heavenly gods Adityas
and also INDRA is considered as the main god among terrestrial gods Vasus, that
is equivalent to ranking
to consonant sounds as Adityas and Vasus correspond
with consonant sounds of speech.
In texts of Vedas the name INDRA has an epithet "world autocrat" who organizes a
universe and organizes interrelations of gods, namely INDRA rules over functions
of all gods and in essence he has heavenly, water, fiery, terrestrial qualities.
MATARISHVAN (sound
and yellow color).
MATARISHVAN is a god of fire or tongues of flame which are similar to
whirlwinds, namely it is possible to tell that this god is personification of
fire and energy which is made in tongues of flame.
MATARISHVAN has created the god AGNI whose name means "fire" and is an epithet
of sacrificial fire which uplifts to the sky human desires in tongues of flame
and consequently AGNI will penetrate through all spheres of a universe and is
ubiquitous (omnipresent), namely AGNI is interconnected to all gods. Therefore
MATARISHVAN too is the ubiquitous and important god in hierarchy of gods of
Vedic mythology, and also the sound
has the important phonetic value.
The most important in Vedic Sanskrit are vowel sounds
and other vowel
sounds are applied seldom or not applied at pronunciations of words.
TRITA APTYA (sound
and brown color).
TRITA APTYA is the god who connects fire and water. It is possible to assume
that this god personifies a smoke and fume-ashes of the fiery phenomena, and
also personifies a steam which arises in connection of fire with water.
TRITA APTYA is connected with AGNI in Hindu rituals that specifies interrelation
with
MATARISHVAN and consequently TRITA APTYA corresponds with the iotated vowel
sound
which is formed of
connection of sounds
.
APAS (sound
and orange color).
The name APAS means "waters" and is identified with a cosmic waters which VARUNA
stores, but also APAS is identified with water of the rivers, the seas and
oceans that is opposite to
MATARISHVAN who personifies a flame and a cosmic fire. But two gods are
interconnected and form complementary pair that specifies phonetic ratio of
sounds
.
Cosmic waters of APAS are a source SOMA or a magic drink which generates force
and immortality of gods. The SOMA and AGNI too form complementary pair which is
similar to complementary pair of APAS and
MATARISHVAN.
APAM NAPAT (sound
and pink color).
Name APAM NAPAT means "son of waters" namely the son of APAS and consequently
APAM NAPAT corresponds with the iotated vowel sound
which is formed of
connection of sounds
.
This god connects fire and water, as well as TRITA APTYA. Probably, he
personifies a fog and dew.
Total four gods
MATARISHVAN, TRITA APTYA, APAS, APAM NAPAT form one of three axes in the
hierarchical diagram of gods in the category Rudras of Vedic mythology. This
axis symbolizes cosmic waters and cosmic fire, and also symbolizes connection of
fire and water.
RUDRA (sound
and red color).
The name RUDRA means "roaring" and is the common name for gods of Vedic
mythology in the category Rudras, that speaks about the important value of this
god and the important value of the sound
in Vedic Sanskrit.
The sound
is universal as in Sanskrit there is a rule according to which say the sound
if in a word there are no letters which specify other vowel sounds, namely if
the mark of any vowel is not specified after a consonant then say the sound
.
RUDRA personifies cosmic energy and electromagnetic forces of the planet Earth,
and RUDRA is identified to the god SHIVA who destroys the world in
Hinduism.
Cosmic energy of RUDRA differs from cosmic fire of MATARISHVAN, namely these are
different kinds of energy which have different metaphysical sense.
ADJA ECAPAD (sound
and purple color).
The name ADJA ECAPAD means "one-legged goat" that is a metaphor of the word
"lightning", namely this god personifies electric discharge of lightning and is
interconnected with RUDRA who personifies cosmic electromagnetic forces.
Therefore this god corresponds with the iotated vowel sound
which is formed of connection of sounds
.
PARJANYA (sound
and green color).
The name PARJANYA means "thundercloud" and personifies concentration of water in
air space, that similarly to cosmic waters of APAS but has other metaphysical
sense.
PARJANYA is interconnected with RUDRA as clouds accumulate electric charges
which become discharge of lightning, that specifies phonetic ratio of vowel
sounds
.
AHY BUDHNYA (sound
and light blue
color).
The name AHY BUDHNYA means "serpent of depths" and is identified with depth of
water in texts of Vedas. Therefore it is possible to assume that this god
personifies drops or jets of a rain.
He is interconnected to the god PARJANYA as clouds are a source of a rain, and
consequently he corresponds with the iotated vowel sound
which is formed of
connection of sounds
.
And also AHY BUDHNYA is interconnected to the god ADJA ECAPAD as the rain and
storm lightning are interconnected.
Total four gods RUDRA, ADJA ECAPAD, PARJANYA, AHY BUDHNYA form the second
axis of the hierarchical diagram of gods in the category Rudras of Vedic
mythology. The second axis symbolizes electromagnetic energy of the sky and
concentration of water in the sky, and also symbolizes connection of
electromagnetic energy and water.
Pay attention that opposite poles of the second axis correspond to red color and
green color which are contrast colors and consequently lightning are formed at
connection of electric energy and water. It differs from processes which are
connected to the first axis of the shown hierarchical diagram of gods, and which
occur at connection of cosmic fire and cosmic waters as opposite poles of the
first axis correspond with yellow color and orange color which are not contrast.
And also differs from processes connected with the third axis of the shown
hierarchical diagram of gods, which too are not contrast as opposite poles of
the third axis correspond to blue color and violet color.
Besides pay attention that a link in mutual relation of all gods is INDRA, but
direct executors of interrelations and connections of all gods are gods with
double names ADJA ECAPAD, AHY BUDHNYA, TRITA APTYA, APAM NAPAT which correspond
with the iotated vowel sounds formed by means of sound
appropriate to
INDRA.
VAYU (sound
and dark blue color).
The name VAYU means "wind" and personifies a wind as movement of air, and also
personifies breath or vital force which has name PRANA in Vedas in a context of
Vedic mythology and in Hinduism.
VAYU is interconnected to the god VATA and forms with him the complementary pair
that specifies phonetic accord of vowel sounds
.
VATA (sound
and violet color).
The name VATA means "wind force" that personifies a whirlwind or power of a
wind, namely it is possible to tell that VATA personifies a howling wind, and
VAYU personifies a breathing wind.
Together two gods correspond with the third axis of the hierarchical diagram of
gods in the category Rudras, and symbolize movement of an atmosphere in which
other atmospheric gods Rudras are involved.
INDRA is the driver in air chariots of VATA and VAYU that specifies phonetic
ratio of sounds
.
Total pink fog of APAM NAPAT, orange waters of APAS, green thundercloud of
PARJANYA, light blue rain of AHY BUDHNYA, red electromagnetic energy of sky of
RUDRA, purple lightning of ADJA ECAPAD, yellow cosmic fire of MATARISHVAN, brown
smoke of fire of TRITA APTYA form an atmosphere of a planet the Earth according
to spectral parameters of color and according to hierarchy of gods of Vedic
mythology in the category Rudras. And also various qualities of light of
heavenly gods Adityas incorporate to a palette of spectral parameters of
atmospheric gods, and as a matter of fact corpuscles of heavenly light
incorporate to waves of color in an atmosphere of the Earth, and form a visible
picture of a universe which is described in poetic hymns of Vedas in a context
of Vedic mythology.
The following page compares atmospheric gods Rudras with numerological numbers within the magic square, and also describes gods Ashvins of Vedic mythology.
